FUEL TANK CLEANING
Larry
One way to clean out a tank
is to wait till fall haul-out then disconnect the fuel line at the racor filter after shutting off the fuel line at the tank (
you could add a shut off at this time at the filter). Using a 1/4 inch splice extend the fuel line
about 10 feet. While the boat is on stands feed the hose out the engine thru
hull to a fuel can. Open the shut off and gravity will do the rest. Once all
the fuel is out dump a few gallons of kerosene in to the tank and drain that
out. That should clean out the crud at
the bottom of the tank. Now refill tank
with fresh fuel or pour the fuel you took out thru a paint strainer with a
coffee filter in it and put it back in the tank. I've done this a number of
times on other boats and it is easy to do and has always worked great
