Leak – Aft Shower

My leak is from one of the valves because the water ran out of the shower head.  I removed the water hoses on the back of the unit, and joined them with a union coupler. Now I don't have a water leak. The pump never runs unless a spigot is opened.

Warr de Mar is 1994 #62 with the aft shower from SSI in Hollywood, MD. I don't think the company is still in business. If you have this unit, there might be an SSI label inside the door. The faucet handles are rectangular with rounded corners and a colored cap in the center.

With the tip of a knife, pry out the colored cap. Use a wrench to unscrew the valve and remove it. You will see two "O" rings on the body of the valve. These only prevent water from leaking out of the valve itself. Now turn the valve upside down and with your hands press the valve stem against a hard surface. The valve stem should move through the valve body and expose two more "O" rings. These are the ones that will let water leak into the hose.

I found the outside "O" rings at Home Depot. I haven't yet looked for the inside replacements. I think the dimension of the inside rings are most important so be sure you get a good match. ACE Hardware stores may also have a good assortment of "O" rings.

Good Luck

I believe that SSI is still in business. I purchased a replacement shower head and hose from them about a year and a half ago.  They are kind of hard to find on the web, but do appear to have an active website with contact information, a catalog dated this year, and even a picture of our shower!  Check it out at...
