CATALINA ORIENTATION NOTES

1.                  Halogen lights – get spares.

2.                  30 amp, auto type, barrel fuse, thermal – get spare.

3.                  Distilled water for batteries – check monthly.

4.                  If battery charger left on, run refrigerator.

5.                  Macerator – open thru hull for holding tank, run.

6.                  Refrigerator – run at 3.5-4.5 for ice cream.

7.                  Winterize – 16 gallons in house water.

8.                  Use Windex for plastic, not glass, on ports and mirrors.

9.                  Engine thru hull – shut after use.  Leave ignition key on bunk as reminder.

10.              Charger – put battery switch on “ALL”, turn on refrigerator.

11.              Water Heater – if running on 110 (switch on), water pressure switch also must be on.

12.              15 amp fuses – get extras.

13.              Battery Switches – don’t switch with engine running.  Can blow out alternator.

14.              Sanitize water system - ¼ cup bleach to 1 gallon water x 3.  Open spigots, fill tanks.  Let stand for 3 hours.  Drain, fill, drain.  If a chlorine smell or taste is left, add ¼ quart vinegar per 5 gallons of water, let stand for 3 days, drain, fill, drain, fill.

15.              Close engine thru hull after each use.  Recommend: store key at thru hull.

16.              Burners – turn on LPG Solenoid switch.  Turn knob left to IGN, hold for a few seconds.  Push the red “Burner Ignite” button, hold for a few seconds while ring heats.

17.              Oven – Turn on LPG Solenoid switch.  Open oven door.  Turn black knob to 170.  Push button (push to light).  Use a match to light pilot in oven.

18.              Mold & Mildew Ideas:

.1.        Dry Bunk – absorbent material placed between the cushion and bunk to minimize condensation.

.2.        Mildew crystals – keep in lockers near a bunk.

.3.        Glass Cleaner – use on carpet and cushion mildew.

.4.        Mildew on fiberglass – let sit for 30” non-phosphorous laundry detergent, rub it off.

.5.        Clorox to clean white surfaces and in dorades.

.6.        Diluted vinegar rubbed on almost any surface to prevent mold.

.7.        Baking soda – cleans most surfaces.

.8.        Lemon juice or baking soda in water, followed by a few days of sunshine, for mildew stains on clothing or other fabric.

.9.        Charcoal briquettes or cat litter to absorb excess humidity, or hang bags of mildew crystals.

.10.    Packets of paraformaldehyde left in places throughout boat.

.11.    Baking soda in refrigerator; prop doors open when not in use.

.12.    Reusable silica gel – put inside clothing and book bags.

.13.    Store clothing and towels in fabric laundry bags with desiccant packets, scented dryer sheet, or bar of soap.  No plastic bags for long term storage.

19.              Bottom paint type is A.C.T. Interlux blue ablative.  If changing, put power washer on “stun”.  This is basically a one season paint, like Micron CSC.

20.              “Barrier Coat” – No actual barrier coat.  Rather, vinylester resin used in lay-up vs. epoxy or barrier.
