"Rare Form" quartet
has been singing
in this area for almost a year now, and boy, are we having a blast! We
are all
members of the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS), though we represent
different
choruses in WV. Our songs cover the gamut: love songs, swing tunes,
ballads,
inspirational... Good for any occasion.
Our lead, Kirk King, is a
former music educator turned
Principal of Van Elementary, in Boone County. He hails from St. Albans,
and has
been singing with the Kanawha Kordsmen for 6 years now. Kirk has been
serving
as the chorus' Youth in Harmony leader for 3 years now, and is doing a
wonderful job helping us organize our harmony camp, currently under
development
for the summer of 2011.
Drew Price sings
bass with us, and he drives
the furthest to rehearsals, since he lives in Barboursville. He has
been
barbershopping for 2 years now, originally with the Thundertones chorus
in
Barboursville, and now also with the Kanawha Kordsmen for the past
year, as
well. Drew manages Stadium Bookstore in Huntington, and brings his
skills in
marketing to our neck of the woods to help spread the word about
barbershop.
Singing the high notes is Steve Waggoner, the
tenor. Steve has over 20
years experience singing barbershop, as well as many years directing
choruses
throughout the state. He lives in Kanawha City and has been working
dutifully
at McJunkin Red Man Corporation for the last year. Steve has been
quartetting
ever since he began, and brings a wealth of knowledge to our ensemble.
Ted Rose fills in
the chords with all the
weird notes on the baritone line. He also works at McJunkin Red Man, in
the
Inventory Logistics department. Both of those things are well suited to
the
type of person with an odd brain, or a degree in both Chemical
Engineering
(WVUIT) and Music Composition (Marshall). He has been singing
barbershop for 10
years now, and is currently serving as the Kordsmen's VP of Chapter
development. Ted and Steve also co-direct the women's barbershop
chorus, the
Almost Heaven Chorus, representing Sweet Adelines International.
