Developing Language through Music and Movement

Learning speech patterns, using inflections, compound words, complex rhythms, timbre, rhythmic patterns, movement and sound, all of these things are interrelated and play an important part in developing the whole being.

As we all know, oral language precedes written language. Children need to develop their oral and nonverbal language skills, including abilities to focus attention and listen, in order to successfully undertake reading and writing skills.

The music class plays an integral link in the chain of the language building process. These sites will give you information on how to utilize some fundamental concepts that will benefit the student in more than just his musicianship but how he communicates as well.

Early Childhood Education

This site is dedicated to the education of young children. It contains ideas, articles, projects, seasonal themes, and printable pages; all to help you teach your child(ren) in a fun and interesting way!!! This page is for Parents, Teachers, Care Givers, Homeschoolers, and their Children!

Early Childhood Education and Activity Resources and one of the pages at this site specifically deals with Music and Movement.

There are many sites that offer music and movement lessons and activities but I could find very few sites that specifically dealt with the subject matter at hand. If anyone accessing this article has any information on a site that addresses the development of language being aided through the use of music and movement, please leave your information in the discussion area found at the bottom of this page.
