Deborah Jeter

Earth Day can be a wonderful time to internalize taking care of the earth through songs and various fun activities. When we take the time to discover the delicate balance in place that weaves all of us together, we build a better tomorrow. We are one big family on this green and blue planet. We can take better care of the earth in the details of our lives with a few simple exercises and songs.

Let's Sing About It!

Sisters' Choice Recordings and Books - Here's a page that lets you hear a preview of a song or two before you buy. The songs also have activities to accompany them.

Here is one of the cute songs, HEAD FIRST AND BELLY DOWN, which has this activitiy to use in your classroom.

Another great song at this site is We're all in this together. This is a wonderful package that has 15 ecology songs for the whole family. The activity page for all of the song kits are on this page.

Let's Read about it!

Here are some great books to use for your Earth Day activities.

50 Simple Things Kids can do to Save the Earth is full of experiments, facts, and exciting things to do. My students have thoroughly enjoyed the activities in this book.

The Recycler's Handbook (50 simple things you can do to save the Earth) - In the foreword of this book, it states that "Our society conditions us to believe that each of us is insignificant. It's simply not true. When we understand that, we've begun to take control of our lives...and our future. We can no longer afford to treat the Earth and its resources as if they were disposable. Recycling is a fundamental way of affirming this. Literally, we save parts of the planet...but the real power comes from our commitment to cherish and protect our home, now and in the years to come."
