It's Just A Game
"It's just a game", they always say,
before the ball goes into play,
"It's just a game, and nothing more"
as they peel their egos off the floor.
Another game another day,
to paint with gold our feet of clay.
The ball takes on a brighter glow,
the scoreboard flashes, "four to oh".
The junior gods they jump and spin,
the ball is thrown, it bounces in.
The people shout, the people scream,
the people dream their favorite team.
The game is now a worthy goal,
the people play their warrior role.
They live it's life and die it's death,
their lives blown out by its final breath.
The players run, the players flash,
the players sweat, the players clash.
The final score is six to oh,
the game is dead, the people go.
"It's just a game and nothing more",
but so is life, and so is war.
