Betty R. Ayers, 83, of Milan, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at
Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201
E. 4th Ave., Milan. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock
Island. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In
lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either First Presbyterian
Church, Milan, or to the family to be designated later for a
special-needs organization.
The former Betty R. Handley was born April 25, 1924, in Rock Island, a
daughter of Benjamin W. and Marion P. Temple Handley. She married Donald
A. Ayers on June 3, 1944, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1993.
Betty was a nurse's aide at the former St. Anthony's Hospital,
Rock Island, for a time. For most of her life she was a devoted and
loving homemaker and mother. She enjoyed cooking and being with family
and friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Milan, Rock Island
Moose Lodge, and the "777" Club. She enjoyed playing bingo,
cards with the card club, and gardening.
Surviving are her children, Ron Ayers, and his special friend,
Linda, Lynn Center, Rick (Barb) Ayers, Reynolds, Denny (Sherry) Ayers,
Hampton, Pam Ayers, Silvis, Terry (Cindy) Ayers, Sherrard, Tim Ayers,
and his special friend, Michelle, Candy Barnett, and her special friend,
Steve, and Dee (Trent) Allison, Milan; other extended family, Cindy,
Evelyn, and Diane; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one on
the way; six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Chris Chandler, Moline.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; son, Kevin; daughter,
Robin; two sisters and a brother.
