Patrick Ayers

  Patrick Ayers died Friday morning, April 8, 1892, about 7 o'clock at his home near Gilchrist. His sickness was from April 3, until time of his death and death was unexpected resulting from an affection of the lungs. The funeral was held Sunday at 3 o'clock from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Preemption. Conducted by Father Murtaugh. A large gathering of friends and neighbors assembled in showing testimony of respect for deceased. About 70 teams followed the remains to their last resting place. A son, Richard and a nephew, Patrick Conway, both of Creston, Iowa came on the Dolly Saturday morning via Burlington. A sister, Mrs. Hannah Meehan and her son Thomas both of Crawford, Iowa came via Rock Island. Tom Brown another nephew and Mrs. Mary Krohme, both of Davenport, and Miles Kehoe of Milan were the relatives from a distance. The undertakers were Messrs. Fritag & Company of Reynolds; the pallbearers- Dan Mack, John McManus, James Barnes, Michael Flynn and Michael Kavne. Deceased was born at Kilrush, County Clare, Ireland in 1837 and came to the U.S. in 1851 and lived in Mercer County since 1864. Seven children survive him: Mary, Richard (married and living in Creston, Iowa), Ellen, Martin, Lizzie, Bridget, & Michael the youngest aged 10 years. Mortuary

  Patrick Ayers died Friday morning, April 8, 1892, at his home near Gilchrist, after a sickness of about a week from lung trouble. The funeral was held from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Pre-Emption, Sunday, April 10, at 8 p.m., services conducted by Father Murtaugh. The remains were buried in the Catholic Cemetery. The attendance of friends was quite large, there were between 70 or 75 teams at the church. The pallbearers were Daniel Mack, John Mack, Michael Flynn, James Barnes, Robert McManus and Mike Keveney. The wife of deceased died in 1877. He leaves a family of seven children, all at homes excepting Richard, who resides at Creston, Ia. The children in the order of their ages, are Mary, Richard, Nellie, Martin, Lizzie, Bridget and Michael, the latter being aged 16 years. Among those in attendance at the funeral from a distance, were the the son Richard from Creston, Ia.; Patrick Conway, a nephew of the deceased, also from Creston; Mrs. Hannah Meehan, a sister, and son Thomas, from Crawford, Ia.; Thomas brown, a nephew from Davenport, and Mrs. Mary Krohne, also from Davenport.
