Ferne Baker
Ferne M. Baker, 75, of Aledo, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 1994, at
the Mercer County Hospital.
Services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Fippinger Funeral Home,
the Rev. Terry Sweeney, of St. John's Episcopal Church, Preemption, officiating.
Burial was in Peniel Cemetery, rural Joy.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
She was born April 8, 1919, at Coal Valley, a daughter of Andrew
and Lex Rosenberg Cooper.
She received her education from the Cable schools and attended Sherrard
High School.
She married Loren V. Baker May 23, 1938 in Preemption. He survives.
She was a licensed practical nurse, having received her education
from St. Anthony's Hospital in Rock Island where she was employed for
several years. She later worked at the Oak Glen Nursing Home in Coal
Valley and the Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Preemption
and she enjoyed reading.
Other survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Jean
Baker of Aledo; two daughters Norma and husband, Roy Garrison of Rock
Island, and Virginia Cooke of Davenport; 16 grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; and a brother, Andrew Cooper of Lynn Center.
She was preceded in death by her parent and two sons, Virgil and Duane.
Pallbearers were Robert Carroll, Donald Drake, Mike Hutchins,
Robert Weihler, Robert Weihler Jr. and Tim Earl.
