Bernard J. Barnes, 67, formerly of Viola, died Friday, March
27, 1987 at Rock Island Convalescent Center.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 30, at Reiser-Trimble
Funeral Home, Aledo, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic
Church, Aledo, of which he was a member. The Rev. Leo J. McKanna
officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Memorials were
designated to the Mercer County Unit of the American Cancer Society.
Bernard James Barnes was born Dec. 27, 1919 in Millersburg
Township, Mercer County, the son of Joseph Martin and Anna Ethel Doud
Barnes. He married Joanne Hartman on Jan. 16, 1953 in Galesburg. He
married Addie Maynard in 1980 in St. Louis, MO.
He had been employed for 20 years as a general laborer for J. I.
Case Company, Rock Island, and had previously farmed in Rivoli Township.
He was a member of UAW Local 806, Rock Island.
Survivors include his wife Addie; his daughter Catherine S. Rice,
Viola; his son Joseph B. Barnes, Matherville; and two grandchildren.
