Funeral Rites Held Monday for Joseph Barnes
Joseph M. Barnes, 69, of east of Aledo, died at 6:40 Friday,
Sept. 27, 1957, of a heart ailment, in Mercer County hospital, where he
had been a patient since Aug. 28.
The body was taken to the Reiser Funeral home, Aledo, and taken
to the family home at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Funeral services
were at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Catherine's Catholic church, Aledo, with
the Rev. C. M. Meyer, pastor, officiating and burial was in St. Joseph's
cemetery, Preemption. The rosary was recited at the family home at 7:30 Sunday night.
Mr. Barnes was born Dec. 14, 1887 in Preemption township, son of
Mr. and Mrs. James Barnes. He was married in Aledo, Feb. 26, 1919 to
Miss Anna Doud, and since then they have farmed near Aledo, the past 30
years east of the city.
He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic church, and the
parish Holy Name Society.
Surviving are the widow; a son, Bernard J.; two grandchildren;
and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Ryan and Miss Ella Barnes, all of Aledo. Miss
Barnes is a patient in Mercer County hospital. He was preceded in death
by six brothers and a sister.
