Funeral Services For Mrs. Barnes Held Tuesday
Funeral rites for Mrs. Francis J. Barnes, 49, of near Aledo,
were held at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, March 8, 1960, in St. Catherine's
Roman Catholic church, Aledo, with The Rev. C. M. Meyer, pastor,
officiating. Burial was in St. Catherine's Roman Catholic cemetery,
Viola.
Mrs. Barnes succumbed at 4 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, in the Moline
public hospital where she had been a patient for the preceding three
weeks. Her health had been poor for the two years before her death.
Pallbearers were Nick Christman, Daniel Titterington, Russell
Kimball, Frank Jacobs, Richard Engle, and Lester Callahan. Mrs. Everett
Redlinger was organist.
Born In 1910
Mrs. Barnes, the former Marguerite Mier, a daughter of William
and Cecilia Beaumont Mier of near Edgington, was born Dec. 9, 1910 in
Rock Island county. She was reared and received her education in rural
Rock Island county schools and graduated from St. Joseph's high school
in Rock Island.
She was married to Mr. Barnes Nov. 12, 1929, in St. Ambrose Roman
Catholic church, Rock island. They farmed in Mercer county and the past
several years on their present farm.
Mrs. Barnes was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic church and
the Altar and Rosary Society.
Surviving are the widower; two sons, James, Viola, and Michael,
at home; a daughter, Mrs. Robert DeClerck, Milan; four grandchildren;
four sisters, Mrs. Farrell Brown, Milan, Mrs. Kenneth Engle, Andalusia,
Mrs. Henry Ault, Eldon, Mo., and Mrs. Elmer Veither, Rock Island; two
brothers Elwin Mier, Illinois City, and William, Galesburg.
