Ray Barnes
Funeral services for Ray J. Barnes, 90, were held at 9:30 a.m.
Monday at the Jinks Funeral Home, Aledo, and at 10 a.m. at St.
Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Aledo. The Rev. Leo Kenna and the
Rev. C.M. Meyer officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Matherville.
Mr. Barnes died Wednesday, March 26, 1986 at the Mercer County
Hospital, Aledo.
Mr. Barnes was born June 25, 1895 in Preemption, son of Thomas
and Hannah Norton Barnes. He was graduated from Reynolds High School and
St. Ambrose College, Davenport.
He married Florence Mallette on Jan. 9, 1918 in Preemption.
Mr. Barnes had spent his entire life in Mercer County and had
lived on the same farm in Perryton Township since 1914. He was a 35-year
trustee of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the
Illinois Farm Bureau. He had sold insurance for 10 years.
Surviving are the wife; two sons, Tom of Orlando, FL, and Edward
of rural Aledo; nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
