Mrs. James Barry passed from this life at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. James Cullen, near Massena, about midnight Thursday,
November 16, 1916. She had not been well for some time but her passing
was not expected at that time. Funeral services were held in the Reno
Catholic church Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Father McAlister, of
Atchison; Rev. Father McDermott, of Massena, and Rev. Father Casey, of
Reno. Interment was in Reno cemetery beside her husband who passed away

Catherine Smith was born in Ireland and was married to James
Barry in the land of her birth. They came to America after a number of
years and located in New York, then came to Iowa. For a number of years
the family home was near Massena, but about fifteen years ago Mr. and
Mrs. Barry moved to Creston, where they made their home until the death
of Mr. Barry on the 13th of October, 1916. Since the death of her
husband Mrs. Barry had made her home with her children. She was at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Hatton, near Corning, until Thursday of last
week, when she went home with her daughter, Mrs. Cullen, and passed away
as mentioned. Mrs. Barry is survived by three sons and three daughters,
James Barry Jr., of Massena; Patrick of the state of Washington; Michael
of Massena; Mrs. James Cullen and Mrs. Tom Waters, Massena, and Mrs.
Sarah Hatton, near Corning; beside a large number of grandchildren and
ten great grandchildren. The funeral was attended by a large company of
friends and neighbors, and the music was furnished by the Stuart choir.
Many friends extended sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.
