Michael E. Barry
Michael Edward Barry, son of James and Catherine Barry was
born in northern Adams county, October 26th, 1880. He passed away at the
age of 79 years, 1 month and 13 days.
On May the 29th 1904 he was married to Julia McConkay at St. Patrick
church in Corning. To this union were born three children, John E., at
home, Helen K. Mack of Des Moines, and Bernadine M. Rusco of Lenox.
Mike spent his life time in Cass and Adams counties, where he
made many good friend and acquaintances. He farmed south of Massena
several years. In 1919 he became a mortician and owned a furniture and
undertaking store in Massena until 1934. He was active in civic and
church affairs. He organized Massenas' first fire team and helped to
obtain the first chemical fire truck and siren for the town. He worked
for the Boyd Roland Funeral Home in Corning for several years until he
retired at Lenox.
He also leaves to mourn his passing four grandchildren, Richard
R., Carolyn, and Barbara Mack and James J. Rusco. Two sons-in-law, Edwin
L. Mack and Royal P. Rusco and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Dec. 12th at 9:30 a. m. from St.
Patrick's church Corning, with Fr. Bonaventure Bolda and Fr. Adam Reisz
officiating. Pall bearers were Hubert Barry, Emmett Barry, Wilbur Barry,
James Waters, Merlin Holate, and Francis Roland. Interment was in
Calvary cemetery Corning.
