Velma C. Beck
Velma C. Beck, 92, Red Oak, was born to Jay and Frances
(Wright) Conaway Feb, 11, 1906, in Corning. She died June 11, 1998, at
the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.
She was raised in Corning and was married to Ivan Beck July 27, 1932, at
Corning. They farmed in the Corning area several years before moving to
California where they lived for 20 years. They moved to Red Oak in July 1975.
Mrs. Beck had taught schools in Iowa and California for 20 years. She
was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Order of Eastern Star
No. 64 in Corning and had been a past matron, Harmony Shrine No. 27 of
the White Shrine of Jerusalem, having served as past worthy high
priestess, Book and Study Club and Retired Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1993; three
brothers; and a half sister.
Eastern Star services were held June 15 at
Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in Red Oak. Graveside services
and burial were held June 16 at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Corning with
the Rev. Thomas Card officiating.
