Services for Hermiena C. "Minnie" Begyn, 95, of 3705
9th St., Rock Island, are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church,
Milan. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.
Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock
Island, with a rosary recited by Daughters of Isabella, Circle 532 at
2:30 p.m., and a wake service conducted at 5:30 p.m. Memorials may be
made to the church or a favorite charity.
Mrs. Begyn died on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at Trinity Medical
Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
The former Hermiena Janssens was born March 17, 1903, in
Westdorpe, Holland. She married Maurice A. Begyn June 21, 1921, in
Preemption. He died July 21, 1984.
She had been a supervisor in the housekeeping department at the
former St. Anthony's Hospital and former Franciscan Medical Center for
15 years, retiring in 1973.
She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan, its Altar
and Rosary Society and its Mission Ladies, the Daughters of Isabella Our
Lady of Perpetual Help Circle 532 and the Trinity Medical Center
Auxiliary. She had been a special volunteer at Franciscan Medical Center
for 20 years.
Survivors include daughters and a son-in-law, Lillian and Elmer
DeSmet, Rock Island, and Luella Taube, Milan; sons and daughters-in-law,
Daniel and Dorothy Begyn, Andalusia, and John and Sharon Begyn, Milan;
16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Louis, in infancy.
