John Begyn
John R. Begyn, 75, of Milan, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2005, at
Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church,
Milan. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 8
p.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, where a Christian
wake service will be held at 5 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose
Catholic Church or the American Kidney Foundation.
Mr. Begyn was born May 16, 1929, in Preemption, son of Maurice
and Hermiena Janssens Begyn. He married Sharon L. Adams Sept. 3, 1949, in Milan.
John graduated from Sherrard High School, where he played on the
six-man football team.
He worked for 27 years on the Rock Island Lines, serving as
foreman of the Maintenance of Way Department. John later worked nine
years for the DRI Line and retired in 1989.
He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. John was
an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed spending time
with his grandchildren, especially attending their ball games and practices.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; sons and daughters-in-law,
Steven and Bonnie Begyn, Latham, N.Y., Gregory Begyn, Coal Valley, Kevin
and Kathy Begyn, Rock Island; grandsons, Andrew, Brent, Brad and Justin;
great-grandsons, Ryan and Matthew; sisters, Lillian DeSmet, Rock Island,
and Luella Taube, Milan. He was preceded in death by his parents; a
grandson, Blair; and a brother, Daniel Begyn.
