Guy B. Benton
Guy B. Benton, son of Emery and Minnie Keysor Benton was born
on a farm near Malcom on June 24, 1891. He passed away Jan. 8 at St.
Francis hospital. The greater part of his life was spent on the farm. As
a young man he attended the Brooklyn Christian church. He also was a
charter member of Hartwick Odd Fellows Lodge.
On June 2, 1912, he was united in marriage with Bessie Davenport
and they established their home near Brooklyn for several years. In June
of 1937 they moved to Grinnell, which has been their home since. They
are the parents of 6 children, Mrs. Maxine Farmer of Montezuma, Harold
Benton of Kellogg, Mrs. Jeanette Wiley of Grinnell, Robert Benton of
Newton, Emery Benton of Grinnell and Mrs. Ruth Johnson of Kellogg.
His greatest enjoyment was in his home and during his long
illness his only concern was for the welfare of his family.
He was a true friend and a kind and sympathetic neighbor to all.
After moving from the farm, he was employed at Kellogg but he has
been retired for several years due to a serious asthma and heart
condition which resulted in death. He was preceded in death by his
father and mother, two brothers, one sister and one grandson. He is
survived by his wife, six children, ten grandchildren, five sisters and
one brother and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Smith Funeral Home on Thursday
afternoon conducted by Rev. W.F. Overhulser of the Methodist church.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Paxson and Mrs. Miller. Pallbearers were six
nephews. Many relatives and friends attended the funeral. He was laid to
rest in the Hazelwood cemetery.
