J. A. Bohan, 69, Farm Leader, Rites Sunday
Ex-Keithsburg Resident; Once prominent Seaton Livestock Grower
James A. Bohan, former resident of Keithsburg, died Wednesday
night at 9:30 o'clock at the Norberry sanitarium in Jacksonville where
he had been a patient for more than a year. Mr. Bohan, a retired stock
raiser and farmer, had been residing in Monmouth since his retirement
about 10 years ago.
Mr. Bohan, a son of the late John and Bridhet Haney Bohan, was
born on a farm in Henderson county, March 24, 1878. He was married to
Miss Maud Lett of Keithsburg on Jan. 9, 1906, who with a son, James L.
Bohan, survives him. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Mary B. Humphreys
of Moline and Mrs. Bertha Fredrick of Abingdon and a brother, Dr. P. T.
Bohan of Kansan City. Two sisters and a brother Miss Maggie Bohan, Mrs.
Ann Callahan and William Bohan, preceded him in death.
Prominent Farmer
Mr. Bohan was a member of the Catholic church and the Elks lodge
in Monmouth. He was reared in the Seaton community where he was a
well-known farmer and stock raiser. In recent years he had been
associated with his son in operating his farm.
Funeral services were held at the Immaculate Conception church in
Monmouth at 9 o'clock Saturday morning. The body was brought to
Keithsburg for burial in St. Mary's cemetery, with the Rev. Emil
Metzger, pastor of St. Mary's church at Keithsburg, assisting in the
services at the grave.
