Brennan Funeral services for Miss Grace
Brennan were held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, at St. Joseph's
church, Preemption. Requiem high mass was celebrated by Father Shields
and interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery. Everett Hayes, Louis
Barns, M. H. Mack, Bernie Brennan, Bert Horan and Edward Brennan acted
as pallbearers.
Grace was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Brennan and she past
away at her home in Preemption at 1:25 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, after an
18-day illness of pneumonia. She was taken severely ill while teaching
in the Union district and in spite of the best care given by two
doctors, three trained nurses and others, her life could not be saved.
Born on April 20, 1906, she spent her entire life in the family
home. She attended Fair Play school, the Mathersville High school and
graded from the Immaculate Conception Academy in Davenport. She received
training in the Teachers College in Macomb. For eight years she had
taught in the Union district.
Besides her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Miss Mary at
home and Mrs. Ned Edwards of Rock Island; and two brothers, John of
Orion and Dan of Rock Island.
Grace was a member of St. Joseph's church and was active in the
Altar and Rosary Society. She sang in the choir and taught catechism.
Miss Brennan was also a well liked leader in community affairs.

Miss Grace Brennan of Preemption Succumbs After 18 Days' Illness of
Pneumonia. Preemption, Ill., Dec. 31.--(Argus News
Service)--Miss Grace Brennan, 29 years old, died at 1:25 o'clock
yesterday afternoon in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel
Brennan, four miles southwest of Preemption. She had been ill of
pneumonia 18 days.
Miss Brennan was born April 20, 1906, in the home in which she
died. She was educated in rural schools and Mathersville high school and
was graduated from Western States Teachers' College, Macomb.
She had been a teacher in Union school, Preemption township, for
nine years. Miss Brennan was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church,
Preemption and of the Altar and Rosary society. She also taught in the
church school.
Surviving are her parents; two sisters, Miss Mary Brennan, at
home and Mrs. Ned Edwards of Milan, and two brothers, John and Dan
Brennan of Reynolds.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 o'clock Thursday
morning in St. Joseph's Catholic church, with the Rev. John Shields
officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery.
