Charles H. Bridger

Charles H. Bridger, an old and respected citizen of Rivoli township died at his residence on the Viola Road, three miles west of New Windsor Sunday evening, and was buried Tuesday. The funeral was held from the residence, at 10 o'clock a. m., Rev. Pinkney officiating. Charles Bridger was born in Troy, New York, September 15, 1832, and when but six years of age moved with his parents to Illinois and stopped for a few weeks on the cite where Chicago is now located. But his parents concluded it was too low and swampy for health, and came to Mercer county and settled in Suez township, at what is now known as Bridger's Corners. Mr. Bridger's parents died when he was but seven years of age and he was left to make his own way in the world. On the 18th of September, 1855, he was united in marriage to Martha Francis Smith who died some seven years since. He leaves a family of nine children: G. W. Bridger of New Boston, Mrs. Lucy A. Carlson of Clearfield, Iowa, William Bridger of Alpha, Mrs. Carrie Anderson of Suez, Mrs. Fannie Beck and Mrs. Nettie Kenney of New Windsor, Orville C. and Miss Jessie who reside at home, and Bert E. Bridger of New Boston township. Mr. Bridger was a good citizen, an honest, straightforward man, and was highly respected by all who knew him.
