Charles H. Bridger
Charles H. Bridger, an old and respected citizen of Rivoli
township died at his residence on the Viola Road, three miles west of
New Windsor Sunday evening, and was buried Tuesday. The funeral was held
from the residence, at 10 o'clock a. m., Rev. Pinkney officiating.
Charles Bridger was born in Troy, New York, September 15, 1832, and when
but six years of age moved with his parents to Illinois and stopped for
a few weeks on the cite where Chicago is now located. But his parents
concluded it was too low and swampy for health, and came to Mercer
county and settled in Suez township, at what is now known as Bridger's
Corners. Mr. Bridger's parents died when he was but seven years of age
and he was left to make his own way in the world. On the 18th of
September, 1855, he was united in marriage to Martha Francis Smith who
died some seven years since. He leaves a family of nine children: G. W.
Bridger of New Boston, Mrs. Lucy A. Carlson of Clearfield, Iowa, William
Bridger of Alpha, Mrs. Carrie Anderson of Suez, Mrs. Fannie Beck and
Mrs. Nettie Kenney of New Windsor, Orville C. and Miss Jessie who reside
at home, and Bert E. Bridger of New Boston township. Mr. Bridger was a
good citizen, an honest, straightforward man, and was highly respected
