Ruth Callahan, 84, of Keithsburg, passed away Thursday, Sept.
28, 2006, at St. Mary's Hospital, Galesburg, with her husband of 68
years at her bedside.
Honoring the request of the deceased, there will not be a
visitation. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3 at St.
Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Keithsburg. In lieu of flowers, her family
asks that any memorials be made to the Keithsburg Fire and Ambulance
Department. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo, is handling arrangements.
Ruth was born Dec. 10, 1921, in rural Seaton, the daughter of Tom
and Bess Weeks Willits. She married Lester Callahan Sept. 29, 1938.
In the state spelling contest, Ruth placed third in 1933 and
second in 1934. She was an avid reader and enjoyed having her grandkids
and great-grandkids visit her.
Survivors (and spouses) include her husband, Lester; son, Alan
(Pat) Callahan, Seaton; daughters, Virginia (Tim) Smith, Lewes, Del.,
and Patricia (Harry) Bellinger, Muscatine, Iowa; eight grandchildren;
and 15 great-grandchildren.
