Mrs. Mary Cassin.
Mrs. Mary Cassin, who was perhaps the oldest person that ever
lived in Mercer county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ann Doud,
about ten miles south west of the city, about 8 o'clock Sunday morning
at the remarkable old age of 103 years, as is supposed. Her age is not
certainly known, but is believed to be correct. He eldest son, Martin
Cassin, believes that she was born on May 12, 1800.
She was born in Ireland, her maiden name being Mary Feely. She
was married to James Cassin, who died in Ireland in 1846. Eleven
children were born to them, all of whom are still living. They are
Martin, who lives about four miles south west of this city; Michael, of
this city; Mrs. Catherine Doud, south west of town; Mrs. J. R. Moseley,
Mannon; Mrs. James Breen, of Alexis; Mrs. Daniel Fleharty of North
Henderson; Mrs. Lizzie Willits, of near Keithsburg; Mrs. Bridget Malene,
of Britton, Ia.; Mrs. Joel Moseley, of near Mannon; Mrs. Ann Doud, of
near Keithsburg, and William of San Antonia, Texas.
Mrs. Cassin came to America with the family in 1855, excepting
Martin, who had preceded them a few years, and they joined him here in
Mercer county in 1858.
Funeral services were held at the Catholic church in Keithsburg
today at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Father P. F. Sheridan. Interment
was in the Catholic cemetery.
