James Colgan

  Word was received Wednesday of the death of James Colgan whose demise occurred in St. Katherine's hospital in Omaha August 6, 1924. Mr. Colgan had gone to Omaha seriously ill hoping to be benefited by an operation, but an incision showed that the real trouble could not be reached. He rallied from the anesthetic but passed away soon after. James Colgan was born in Downs County, Ireland, April 28, 1851. He came to this country when about twenty-one locating in Cleveland, Ohio, working in the steel mills, a little later moving to near Peoria, Illinois. There he was married to Mary Ann McGinn. Twenty-nine years ago he came to Adams county living on a farm near Corning until about four years ago when he gave up farming and came to town to live. He leaves a wife and six children. Four children preceded him in death, Will and Charles and two who died in early infancy. Five of the children live in and near Corning and are Mrs. Fred Hill, Mrs. John Curry, Cecilia Colgan, Arthur and Raymond. The son James lives in Seattle. There are two brothers in this country, Hugh of Corning and Bernard who live in Illinois. One brother and two sisters still live in Ireland when Mr. Colgan visited a few years ago. Mr. Colgan was 73 years, 3 months and 10 days old at the time of his death. Twenty-nine of these years had been lived in Adams county during which time the deceased had shown himself a successful farmer and a fine sort of citizen. Definite funeral arrangements are awaiting word from the son in Seattle.
