Raymond E. Colgan
Raymond E. Colgan, son of James and Mary Ann McGinn Colgan,
was born March 20, 1900, in Adams County, Iowa, and entered into rest
March 2, 1986, at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Neb., at the age of 85
years, 11 months and 12 days.
He resided at 621 South 35th Street #10, Omaha, Neb., until last
November when he moved in with his granddaughter, Cindy Lea and family
at 106 Knollwood Drive, Council Bluffs, Iowa.
He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a machinist, retiring
July 28, 1967, after 31 years of service.
He was united in marriage Dec. 16, 1941, with Sarah Irene Bixler
Freeborn at Papillion, Neb. This marriage brought a step-daughter,
Rowena Vera Freeborn Spring into his family.
He was very active in many social clubs. He was involved in the
Elks, Eagles, Knights of Columbus, Czech Civic Alliance, Union Pacific
Junior Old Timers and Union Pacific Old Timers clubs. He enjoyed his
family, his work and his club activities. He enjoyed dining out and
visiting with his many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife; and ten
brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his step-daughter, Rowena Spring; six
grandchildren, Claudia Goff and husband Ken of Clemons, Mich., Trudy
Perrin and husband Donnie of Corning, Iowa, Bill Spring of Stanton,
Iowa, Cindy Lea and husband Larry of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Sara Jo
Coffey and husband Mike of Dublin, Ga., and Matt Spring of Orlando,
Fla.; 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Rosary services were held at Swanson Golden Funeral Home, Omaha,
Neb., March 4. Services were held at the Gauthier Funeral Home in
Corning, Iowa, March 6 at 1 p.m., with Father Fred Reischl officiating.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Corning, Iowa.
Music was provided by Kathleen Cook, organist. Casket bearers
were Ken and John Goff, Larry Lea, and Scot, Davin and Donnie Perrin.
Honorary bearers were Ed Talty, Otis Fife, Dow Keever, Max Bradford and
Otto Sundstrom.
