Sarah Irene Colgan
Sarah Irene Bixler Colgan was born December 26. 1899 to Frank
A. and Maude Rimby Bixler, in Adams County. Iowa, and passed away March
23. 1979 at the Bergin-Mercy Care Center in Omaha, Ne., following an
illness of 2 1/2 months.
She was united in marriage with Raymond E. Colgan December 16,
1941. They resided in Omaha all of their married lives.
Mrs. Colgan was active in a number of organizations of the Union
Pacific Railroad and the Elks Club.
Survivors include her husband Raymond E. Colgan of Omaha; her daughter.
Rowena Freeborn Spring of Corning. Iowa; grandsons. Billy Spring of
Villisca and Matthew Spring and wife Julie of Council Bluffs;
granddaughters, Claudia Spring Goff and husband Kenneth of Detroit,
Mich., Trudy Spring Perrin and husband Donald of Brooks. Cindy Spring
Lea and husband Larry of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Sara Jo Spring of San
Diego, Calif.: eleven great-grand children; three sisters. Babe Root and
husband Bob of Des Moines; Velma Ally and husband Kenneth of Roswell.
New Mexico, and Helen Magnusson and husband Jiggs of Phoenix, Ariz.; two
brothers, Charles Bixler and wife Dorothy of Indio, Calif. and William
Bixler and wife Velma of Phoenix, Ariz. and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Billy Freeborn.
Funeral services were held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in
Corning March 27 at 10:00 a.m. with Msgr. John F. Kovacs officiating.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Corning.
Music was provided by Eleanor Kelly, organist, and the St.
Patrick's Church choir. Pallbearers were Max Bradford. Carl Lawrence,
Jean Brown, Otto Sundstrom, B. Kenneth Roland and John Curry.
