Miss May Collins

  May Louise Collins of 701 S. W. 2nd St., Aledo, Illinois died at Mercer County Hospital in Aledo at 11:30 p.m. April 5, 1978. She was born in Viola, on August 21, 1897, to William R. Collins and Annie Lucas Collins. She was preceded in death by a twin brother, Ray R. Collins and a brother Dean W. Collins.
  She attended school at Viola and Alexis, graduating from Alexis High School. Most of her life was spent at Viola, and in 1971 she moved to Aledo.
  In 1920-21 she attended Western Illinois State Teachers College, now Western Illinois University at Macomb, and started teaching in the public schools of Illinois in 1921, where she taught 42 years, then one year in Iowa. Six years were spent teaching at the former Roosevelt Military Academy at Aledo, retiring in 1973.
  She is survived by a nephew, William J. Collins of Mundelein, two nieces, Mrs. Mary Collins Swanson of Galesburg, and Mrs. Ann Collins Barry of Overland Park, Kansas, and a number of cousins.
  Funeral services were held at Reiser Funeral Home in Aledo on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Visitation was Friday evening at the funeral home.
