Mrs. Conaway's illness dated from the year 1918 and resulted from a severe attack of the influenza while she was visiting her daughter. From this she was never able to recover. Her father was a shipbuilder in New York and gave his life in the service of his country during the civil war. The next year after his death his widow, with her children came to Iowa and located in Scott county. At the age of 15 she united with the Baptist church.
She was married to Alexander Conaway May 30, 1871, at Inland, Iowa. To this union nine children were born, three having preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, who is in the soldiers' home at Leavenworth, Kansas, and who was too ill to come to the funeral. She is also survived by her six children, a number of grandchildren and other relatives and loving friends. The children are: Mrs. Lela Hand of Noll, Missouri; J. A. Conaway of Corning, Iowa; Mrs. C.   Mrs. Conaway will be remembered by the older pioneers as one who gave unstintedly of her energies especially in times of sickness and trouble, up to the time that illness made this impossible. Many old friends will sorrow with the family in this hour of heartache.
