Mrs. Conway, Aledo resident, succumbs at 89
Mrs. Anna Conway, 89, of 309 N. College Ave., Aledo, died this
morning at her home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Catherine's
Roman Catholic Church, Aledo. The Rev. C. M. Meyers, pastor, will
officiate, and burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Preemption
Township. Friends may call at the family home from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday.
There will be a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church. The Wheelan
Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The former Anna Grady was born Feb. 8, 1890 in Melrose, Iowa, the
daughter of Patrick and Mary O'Connor Grady. She received her education
in Melrose and attended Ottumwa Heights Academy, and Creighton University.
She was married to Charles J. Conway, Sept. 1, 1917 in Melrose.
He died in 1978.
Prior to her marriage she taught school in Albia, Iowa. After her
marriage they farmed near Reynolds for more than 50 years.
She was a member of St. Catherine's church, the Altar and Rosary
Society, and she had been the organist for the former St. Joseph's
Church in Reynolds and later was organist at St. Catherine's.
Mrs. Conway was past president and member of the Columbian Club
and also a member of Mercer County Home Extension Service, and a past
president and member of the Mercer County Health Improvement Association.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary MacDonald, Reynolds, and
Mrs. Kathleen Corrigan, Davenport, three sons, Thomas P. and James G,
both of Reynolds, and Charles F., Freeport; 27 grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by several brothers and
sisters, three grandchildren one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the Charles and Anna Conway Memorial
Fund for St. Joseph's Cemetery, Preemption Township.
