Ella Kehoe Conway
After a brave fight for life since withstanding the ordeal of
an operation some months ago, Mrs. Thomas Conway passed peacefully away
early Sunday morning, January 14, 1922, at her home on North College
Ave., Aledo. While her death was not unexpected for the past several
days, it brought profound sorrow to her many friends.
The best that medical science could provide and the kind and
loving care of those nearest to her, was given her at all times. Her
true and noble character was best emphasized during her suffering, as
she never once complained, but bore her trials in a true Christian manner.
Naturally of the most cheerful disposition, she possessed the
happy faculty of making friends easily. Her illness found them all ready
to lend their assistance. That her friends were numerous was evidenced
by the large attendance at her funeral, the wealth of beautiful flowers
and the large number of spiritual bouquets. Kind, cheerful, sincere and
altogether humble, are weak terms to use in an attempt to describe the
many virtues she possessed.
Ella Kehoe was born in St. Marys, Canada, but removed with her
parents Mr. and Mrs. Miles Kehoe, to Milan, Ill., at an early age. She
was married to Thomas Conway in 1882. She is survived by her husband and
two children, Miss Mabel at home, and Charles of Reynolds, Ill., two
grandchildren, Thomas and James Conway, three brothers, W. J. of Niles,
Mich., and James and Michael of Milan, Ill., and three sisters, Mrs. Jno.
Mack Jr. of Viola, Ill., Mrs. Jno. Mack of Corning, Ia., and Mrs. Marion
Surpleas of Rubens, Idaho, and a large number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at St. Catherine's church in Aledo
with Solemn Requiem Mass with Father Higgins, her pastor, celebrant,
Father Burke of Kewanee, deacon, Father Graham of Galva, Sub. deacon and
Father Green of Aledo as Master of Ceremonies. Interment was made in St.
Joseph's cemetery in Preemption, where she was laid gently away by six
nephews, Louis, Frank and Charles Mack and Joseph, William and Martin
Conway. Out of town people present at the funeral included Sister M.
Vincent and Sister M. Agatha of Davenport, Ia., James and Michael Kehoe
of Milan, Jno. Mack of Corning, Iowa, Mrs. Margaret Anthony of Bigelow,
Mo., Thomas Meehan of Vail, Ia., C. C. Houlihan of Dennison, Ia., Jas.
McDonald of Melrose, Ia., John Bickert, Albia, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. H.
Weisel, Mrs. Serena Taylor and Mrs. Jno. Graham of Galesburg, Mrs.
Lanloo of Davenport, Ia., Ella and Mary Heelaw, Grace Wheelan and Mrs.
