Megan Conway 
Aledo, Ill. - Megan Galvin Conway (nee Mary Alice), 85, passed to
eternal life on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010 at Desert Winds Health Care
Center in Peoria, Arizona. She resided in Sun City, Arizona at the time
of her death. Her permanent residence was in Aledo. She died of
complications of a stroke.
A Mass of Christian Burial is at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010
at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Aledo. Burial will be in St.
Joseph's cemetery, rural Aledo. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday at
the Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo where a Rosary will be recited at
7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or
the Alzheimer's Association.
Megan Galvin was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 2, 1925, the
only daughter of Dennis Cornelius Galvin and Mary Gertrude Kinney
Galvin. She attended St. Joseph's Academy as well as Marycrest College
in Davenport, Iowa, where she received her BA in education in 1971 and
Northern Illinois University where she received her master's degree in
adult education in 1976. She married James G. Conway on Oct. 20, 1945
and resided with him on their farm for 65 years.
Megan was active in civic and Catholic Church activities
throughout her life. She taught at Black Hawk College and worked for the
Cerebral Palsy Association throughout her working career. She was a
homemaker and loving mother of nine children. She was blessed and
survived by 15 beautiful grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She
was an avid reader, botanist and leader of women's rights. She was a
leader in the American Association of University Women, Peoria Diocesan
Council of Catholic Women, Aledo School's PTA, Democratic Women's Club,
and Marycrest Alumni Association. She received awards from the State of
Illinois for Rural Hospital volunteerism and Mercer County Project NOW
Outreach. Megan loved a good joke and had a great sense of humor. A
daily Mass attender, Megan was committed to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Megan loved family, faith and learning above all else. She
inspired all her children and grandchildren to pursue higher education
as modeled in her own life. She was always brave, faithful and forward-thinking.
She is survived by her husband, James, eight children, James
Conway, Jr., of Aledo, Maureen Conway of Moline, Marianne "Mandi
" Conway -Gholam of Phoenix, Ariz., Kevin (Linda) Conway of
Sherrard, Brian (Mary) Conway of Gales Ferry, Conn., Shawn (Grete)
Conway of Lagezwulewe, Holland, Michaela (Shack) Cashen of Dallas,
Texas, and Marc (Patricia) Conway of Reynolds; also 15 grandchildren,
Shane Conway-Peterson, Bridgett Syzdek (Tony), Deirdre Conway-Peterson,
Zachary Conway-Peterson. Regina Conway, James Conway III, Elizabeth
Conway, Andrea Keefer (Brian), Dorien Conway, Joshua Conway, Jonathan
Conway, Matthew Conway, Nathan Conway, Caleb Conway and Tavis Conway;
plus six great-grandchildren, Brendan Keefer, Kaden Keefer, Colin
Keefer, Keirsten Keefer, Teagan Syzdek and Kale James Syzdek. She is
survived by her brother, Charles Joseph Galvin (Marian) of St. Louis, Mo.
Megan was predeceased by her daughter, Sheila Kathleen (Jan., 6,
1948); grandchildren, (Gloria Montoya Conway); parents, grandparents
(Dennis and Cicely Galvin and Mary and Charles Kinney, as well as her
brothers John D. Galvin (July 2008) and Robert F. Galvin. (January 1994)
as well as her beloved Chihuahua, Taco.
