Rites for P. J. Conway, 86, Mercer Stock Breeder,
to Be Held Tomorrow in Aledo
Aledo -- Funeral services for Patrick J. Conway, 86 of northeast
Aledo, who died at 4:15 o'clock Saturday afternoon in his home after an
illness of several months, will be held at 9:30 o'clock tomorrow morning
in St. Catherine's Catholic church, Aledo. The Rev. C. M. Meyer, pastor,
will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery, Preemption.
Mr. Conway was widely known as a breeder, feeder and exhibitor of
livestock. He had resided on the same farm in Perryton township, known
as the Oakland Stock farm, since his marriage. He was prominent as a
breeder of polled Hereford cattle. Mr. Conway served in various
capacities in the breeders' association and was a former director of the
Mercer County Agricultural society for several years.
He was born Sept. 24, 1861 in Preemption township, a son of the
late Joseph and Bridget Ayers Conway, pioneer settlers. He married Miss
Julia A. Kennedy in Creston, Iowa, Feb 4, 1894. She died Dec. 14, 1916.
Mr. Conway was of Catholic faith.
Surviving are four daughters, Miss Virginia, at home, Miss
Philomena, Chicago, Mrs. Thomas L. Keeler, Lebanon, Pa., and Mrs. George
Schwaner, Springfield; four sons, William I., Chicago, and Dr. Martin E.,
Vincent and Joseph M. Conway, all of Aledo; 10 grandchildren and a
brother, Martin W. Conway, Aledo. A daughter, Mrs. Mary Scott, of
Springfield, died in 1940.
