Robert M. Conway Dies at Hospital at Davenport
Robert M. Conway, a prominent Aledo businessman, died Dec. 23
at Mercy Hospital, Davenport, where he had been a patient for two weeks,
although he had been in failing health for about a year.
Mr. Conway, 53, was in the appliance and television business and
had for several years previously operated a funeral home here.
He was born at Dennison, Iowa, Feb. 17, 1913, the son of Martin
William and Margaret Meehan Conway. He graduated at Aledo High School,
St. Ambrose Academy and St. Ambrose College at Davenport. He then
graduated at Worsham College of Mortuary Science at Chicago.
He married Vera Lenz, May 23, 1936 at Riverside. He operated his
funeral home here from 1936 to 1942 before entering the appliance and
television field.
Mr. Conway was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church and of
the Holy Name Society.
He leaves his wife Vera, two daughters, Mrs. Sandra Welch, Charles City,
Iowa, and Mrs. Penny Chamberlin, Davenport, and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were held at 10 a.m., Dec. 26, at St. Catherine's
Church, with Msgr. Maurice Dingman of Davenport celebrating the Requiem
Mass and the Rev. C. M. Meyer also officiating. Mrs. Everett Redlinger
was organist.
Rosary was recited Sunday evening, Dec. 25.
Pallbearers were E. A. Johnson, Harold Anderson, David Sherrard,
Jim Godard, Dr. Donald Marquis and Dick Adamson.
Burial was at St. Joseph's Cemetery near Preemption.
