John Joseph Cotter
John Joseph Cotter died at his home in this city last
Saturday. The funeral was held at St. Patrick's Catholic church Monday
morning, conducted y Rev. Father Dollard, and burial was made in Calvary
cemetery. Mr. Cotter had been confined to his bed only since last
Thursday, though he has suffered more or less from heart trouble for the past year.
The deceased gentleman was born in Franklin county, New York,
July 4, 1852, and was aged 69 years, 3 months and 11 days. He came with
his parents to Dubuque county, Iowa, when about eight years of age, and
afterward removed to Taylor county April 1, 1873, where he made his home
until a year ago, when he moved to Corning. In February 27, 1876, he
married Bridget O'Connell, and to them were born seven children, the
oldest of whom died in infancy. Those living are: Louis, of Taylor
county; Mrs. L. B. Beck, Odebold, Iowa; Mrs. D. B. Ryan, Corning;
Daniel, of Omaha; Miss Margaret and Henry, of this city. Mr. Cotter also
leave his sister, Miss Margaret, of Corning, and a brother, G. W.
Cotter, residing south of this place.
The community deeply feels the loss of this good man, who was one
of the pioneers of the community and whose influence was always for the
best things in our public welfare.
