John Curry
John Joseph Curry, 74, Corning, was born to John Peter and
Emma Colgan Curry on Sept. 19, 1922, in Adams County. He died Feb. 14,
1997, at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital In Corning.
He was a lifelong resident of Corning and Adams County and
graduated from Corning High School in 1940.
During World War II he served in the 30th Infantry Division, 117th
Regiment, Company G from 1943-1945. He attained the rank of Staff
Sergeant and received four Bronze Stars for campaigns in Northern
France, the Ardennes, the Rhineland and Central Europe.
Mr. Curry was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Corning
and was a member of the American Legion Post 117 in Coming. His hobbies
were walking, cards, golf and the fellowship of lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Rowena Hickey
and Sally Martin; and brothers Raymond Curry and William Curry.
He is survived by his son Steven and wife Lynn Curry; two
granddaughters, Lawrenceville, Ga.; brothers Frank (wife Evelyn) and
Earl (wife Mary), all of San Diego, Calif.; and sister-in-law Evaline
Curry of Omaha, Neb.
Services were held Feb, 17 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in
Corning with Father Dan Siepker officiating. Military rites were by
Ourcq Post 117 of the Coming American Legion. Burial was in Calvary
Cemetery in Coming.
Casket bearers were Jamie Hogan, Fred McCard, Dale Parcher, Jack
Morrison, Richard Hogan and Francis Mack.
Honorary bearers were Ken Brown, Earl Quinn, Roy Krauth, Tillie Tilford,
Cliff Bradley, Donald Hogan and Wendell Reed.
Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Corning was in charge of arrangements.
