Mary F. Curry
Obituary
The community was saddened Saturday at the death of Mrs. Mary
F. Curry who was known and loved in Corning and vicinity, where she had
lived for the past 65 years and where her influence and activities had
been felt for the uplift of the community because of a life well and
beautifully lived. Mrs. Curry had been in failing health for the past
two years and since last June has made her home with her daughter, Mrs.
Louis Mack. Friday evening while her son, Henry, was visiting her, she
suffered a stroke of paralysis and lived until Saturday at 5:10, when
she slept quietly away.
Mary F. Waters was born December 14, 1859, and died March 28,
1936, at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 14 days. She was the daughter
of Owen and Katherine Waters, and was born in Brimfield, Ill., coming
with her parents to Powesheik county in 1871, later moving to Cass
county in 1874. She was married to Frank Curry at Reno, January 21,
1880, and her husband located on a farm northwest of Carbon. This was
their home until 1913 when they move to Corning. Ten children were born
to this union. One son, James, died when he was 14 months old. The
living children who survive their mother, all of whom were present for
the funeral, are: Katie Rouck of Squires, Mo.; Mrs. Mae Quinn of
Corning; Joe Curry of Omaha; John Curry of Corning; Henry Curry of
Corning; Lulu Casey of Griswold; Leo Curry, Isabelle Mack, and Earl
Curry of Corning. Her husband, Frank Curry, preceded her in death May
26, 1926. She is also survived by her brother. Thomas T. Waters of
Corning, the only living member of her immediate family; 41
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Two grandchildren also
preceded her in death. Many other relatives and innumerable friends
grieve with the passing of this good woman, who was sincere in her
convictions, and kindly and affectionate in her home and community
relationships, and staunch in her religious beliefs. She was a loyal
worker in the St. Patrick's Catholic church, active in the Altar Society
and in the organization, Daughters of America, as long as her health permitted.
Funeral services were held from St. Patrick's Catholic church
Tuesday morning at 9:00 o'clock, with Solemn Requiem Mass, with Rev.
Father Powers, Monseigneur McManus, Council Bluffs, Father McStay,
Lenox, and Father Dower of Reno. The five sons, Joe, John, Henry, Leo
and Earl, and a son-in-law, James Casey, acted as pall bearers.
Interment was made in Calvary cemetery. Out of town relatives who came
to the funeral were: John Curry and daughters, Edith and Lucille of
Council Bluffs; Alec Curry, of Creston, and Mrs. Mary J. Curry, of
Creston; Mr. and Mrs. Jas. McKenna, Mrs. Florena Denton and Mrs. Sarah
Monahan, Kinross, Iowa; John O. Waters, Orient; Mr. and Mrs.
