Catholic Services Held Saturday for Mrs. David
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jane Crummy David, 91, of the
Preemption community were held on Saturday, Sept. 19, 1959. Services at
9:30 a.m. in the Crummy funeral home, Viola, were followed by final
rites at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Roman Catholic church, Matherville.
The Rev. C. M. Meyer, pastor, officiated and burial was in St. Joseph's
cemetery, near Preemption.
Miss David died Wednesday night, Sept. 16, at the Comfort Harbor
nursing home in Milan, where she had been a patient for the last nine years.
Born in Rock Island
Mrs. David, the former Mary Jane Dooley, was born June 18, 1868,
in Rock Island, daughter of Phillip and Rose McMann Dooley. She had
lived near Preemption most of her life and attended St. Joseph's school, Rock Island.
She was a member of Camp No. 1916, Royal Neighbors of America,
Reynolds, and a member of St. Anthony's Catholic church and the Altar
and Rosary society of the church.
She was first married to Michael Crummy in October, 1888, at St.
Joseph's Roman Catholic church, Preemption. After his death, she later
married Thomas David in November, 1907, also in St. Joseph's Catholic
church. He died in March, 1937.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Redpath, Matherville,
and Mrs. Mike Miller, Reynolds; a son, Ben, also of Reynolds; 21
grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren, and three nieces.
Her parents, both husbands, a son, a daughter, two grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild preceded her in death.
Mrs. David's grandchildren served as pallbearers. They were
Robert and Ronald Redpath, Robert Miller, Philip Crummy and Pat and Louis Reedy.
