Thomas David Death came to relieve the
suffering of Mr. Tom David on Sunday morning, March 14. Mr. David had
been in poor health for some time and about a week ago contracted a
severe case of flu and later an attack of pleurisy, which weakened his
heart and caused his death.
Mr. David was a good neighbor, kind and considerate friend and a
loving husband and father.
Tom David was born in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, on January 23, 1867. He
was the second child born to Benjamin and Margaret Petitt David. When
Tom was a lad of 4 years the family moved to Viola and a little later to
Preemption where he has still resided. He received his education in the
Preemption schools. On Nov. 5, 1907, he was united in marriage with Mrs.
Mary Dooley Crummy in St. Joseph's Catholic church in Preemption. Since
their marriage they have made their home on the farm where he passed
away. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church in Preemption.
Those left to mourn are his widow, Mrs. Mary David; three daughters,
Mrs. Ella Redpath of Matherville; Mrs. Alice Miller, who with her
husband and children made their home with her parents, Mrs. Rose Reedy
of Aledo and one son, Ben, at home; his step-mother, Mrs. Emma David;
four brothers, Frank of Sloane Springs, Ark., Amos of Seattle, Wash.,
Lee of Moline and Will of Viola; two sisters, Miss Jewel David of Moline
and Mrs. Laura Hammond of Preemption; 15 grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Robert and Bert; and one sister, Mrs.
Mary Ehlers, have preceded him in death.
Services were held on Tuesday, March 16, from St. Joseph's church
in Preemption conducted by Rev. J. T. Shields with burial in St.
Joseph's cemetery. Pallbearers were J. C. Pitman, Latimer, Robert, and
William Holdsworth, Ed Hicks and Bernard Brennan. Those from a distance
who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Warren David of Parkersburg,
W. Va., Frank David of Sloane Springs, Ark., Miss Jewel David, Mr. Lee
David of Moline, Mr. and Mrs. Joe McMahon, Mr. Ernest Smith and Mr. and
Mrs. George Pfeiffer of Rock Island.
