Elby Davidson
Funeral service for Elby Davidson of Glidden will be at 10:30
a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden.
Mr. Davidson, 86, died Thursday, July 1, at St. Anthony Regional
Hospital in Carroll.
Pastor Alan Miller will officiate the service. Organist will be Becky
Miller. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 a.m.
Casket bearers will be Mark Wilson, Barney Wilson, Wade Prasil,
Brad Davidson, Ryan Boettger, Nathan Seuntjens, Greg Brasel and Rickey
Zorrero. Honorary casket bearers will be Kristen Prasil, Erinn Brasel,
Brandie Davidson, Jenny Seuntjens, Jessica Davidson and Jami Davidson.
Burial will be in Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery at Glidden. Merle
Hay American Legion Post of Glidden will give military honors.
Visitation starts at 4 p.m. and a prayer service will be held at
7 p.m. Monday at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden.
A son of Charles and Edna (Brown) Davidson, he was born Nov. 4,
1917, at Jefferson. He was baptized in 1928 and confirmed Feb. 16, 1947,
at Peace Lutheran Church by Pastor M. Jung. He graduated in 1938 from
Glidden Community High School, where he'd played basketball and football.
Mr. Davidson drove trucks for various employers.
He entered the Army Sept. 8, 1942, and was a staff sergeant and
truck mechanics instructor assigned to Company A 477th QM Truck Regiment
in Alaska. He was honorably discharged in December 1945.
He and Ruth A. Lamaak were married Aug. 2, 1942, and settled in Glidden.
Mr. Davidson was head of transportation at Glidden- Ralston
Community School from 1961 until retiring in 1983.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and had served on its
board of elders and as Sunday school superintendent, belonged to the
Men's Club, started a breakfast Bible study group and served as a
handyman. Mr. Davidson was also volunteer fireman and enjoyed spending
time with his grandchildren and friends, traveling, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Glidden; four children and
their spouses: Virgene and Jack Wilson of Mehanicsville, Susan and Roger
Boettger of Dow City, Larry and Marie Davidson of Grand Island, Neb.,
and Bruce and Michelle Davidson of Carroll; 10 grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren;
and two sisters: Viola Olerich and her husband, Duane, of Wilmington,
N.C., and Goldie Frazier of Glidden.
Mr. Davidson was preceded in death by his parents; a brother,
Virgil; and a sister, Beulah (Bea).
