Funeral Obsequies for Mrs. DeBackere Are Planned Thurs.
Funeral services for Mrs. Romanie DeBackere, 74, of 314 west
Eighth street, Aledo, will be held at 6 a.m. in the Crummy funeral home,
Viola, and at 9 a.m. in St. Ambrose's Roman Catholic church, Milan,
Thursday, Jan. 5, 1961. Officiating will be The Rev. John Callahan, of
St. Ambrose church.
The Rosary will be recited tonight at 8 p.m., Wednesday, in the
Crummy funeral home. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery, Viola.
Born in Belgium
Mrs. DeBackere was born on Feb. 14, 1886 in St. Louis ten Distel,
Belgium, a daughter of Otto and Emilie Brutin.
She was married to August DeBackere in Belgium. They came to this
country in 1912 and settled in Canada. In 1913, she came to Rock Island
county and resided in Rock Island and Taylor Ridge, prior to the death
of her husband in 1954. She then resided with sons, in Milan, Sherrard, and Aledo.
Surviving are three sons, Bert, Sherrard, Maurice, rural Milan,
and George, Aledo; eight grandchildren; and two sisters in Holland.
Three sisters preceded her in death.
At the time of her death, she resided in Aledo with son George an
employee of the Rock Island Arsenal and an officer of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
