Funeral Services Held Wednesday For Mrs. John DeBlock
Funeral Services were held today (Wednesday) for Mrs. John
DeBlock, 74, who died Monday morning, Oct. 9, 1961 at her home in Viola.
Services were at 9:30 a.m. at the Crummy Funeral Home in Viola
and at 10 a.m. at St. John's Roman Catholic church in Viola, with the
Rev. C. M. Meyers officiating. Burial was in the St. John's cemetery.
A Rosary was recited Tuesday night at the funeral home by the
public and at 8 p.m. by the Altar and Rosary Society.
Mrs. DeBlock, the former Bertha Johnson, was born Aug. 14, 1887,
in West Dorp, the Netherlands, a daughter of Jerome and Mary Millone
Johnson. She came with her parents to Moline at the age of 8. She
attended Moline schools.
She was married to Mr. DeBlock March 3, 1908 in Moline. They had
lived in the Viola community for 43 years, and seven years ago retired
and moved into the village.
She was a member of St. John's Church and the Altar and Rosary
Society of the church.
Surviving are the widower; a daughter, Mrs. Merrill Myers of
Viola; a son, Edward, Route 4, Aledo; six grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward and Fred Johnson, both of
Annawan; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Garrett of DePew, Mrs. Martha
McGonigle, East Moline, and Miss Helen Johnson, Peoria, and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents and an infant sister precede her in death.
