Keithsburg man killed by gunshot
Keithsburg - Dan Dellitt, 22 of 203 1/2 Main St., Aledo, was shot in
the chest by a rifle at a Keithsburg residence about 10:30 last night.
He was taken to Mercer County Hospital and was pronounced dead on
arrival at 11:05 p.m. by Mercer County Coroner Jim Earl.
The case is under investigation by Keithsburg Police and the
Mercer County Sheriff's Department.
The incident happened at the Jerry Thorp residence in Keithsburg,
according to the Mercer County Sheriff's Department. Dellitt and others
were reportedly preparing to go raccoon hunting, and a gun was dropped
and it fired.
Dellitt was taken to the hospital by the Keithsburg Ambulance Service.
Earl said Dellitt was killed by a single .22 caliber gunshot to
the chest. He said the bullet penetrated the victim's heart.
Earl said an inquest would be held later. Investigating officer
is John Stewart, Keithsburg police chief.
Funeral services for Mr. Dellitt will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at
Jinks Funeral Home, Aledo. The Rev. Claude Moreland, pastor of First
Baptist Church, Aledo, will officiate, Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery.
Visitation will be after noon to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Dellitt was born July 18, 1960, in Aledo, a son of Everett
and Shirley Mack Dellitt. He graduated from Aledo High School.
On May 29, 1982, he married Doreen Morris in Aledo.
He worked at Boney's Farm Store in Aledo.
Surviving are his wife; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Dellitt
of Aledo; three brothers, Steven L., Charles E. and Brian D., all of
Aledo; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Helen Mack of Aledo.
