Marion Doonan
Marion A. Doonan, 95, of Preemption, died Monday, Nov. 14,
2005, at the Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island.
The Holy Eucharist will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. John's Episcopal
Church, two miles West of Preemption. Burial will be in the Preemption
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Fippinger
Funeral Home in Aledo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to St.
John's Episcopal Church and online condolences can be made at

He was born July 14, 1910, in Bowling Township, Rock Island
County, a son of Christie and Clara Breadon Doonan. He attended the
Preemption school and married Charlotte R. Moseley McManus on her
birthday Nov. 25, 1941. They would have celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Early in his career, Marion was proud that he constructed the
shoulder of Highway 67 through Preemption with his team of mules. In
1935 he began hauling livestock to the Chicago Stock Yards and for many
years was a livestock buyer and trader. In 1950, he started the Doonan
Implement Company in Preemption and operated the company until his death.
Marion was currently the chairman of the board of directors at
the Buffalo Prairie State Bank and he was a lifetime member of the St.
John's Episcopal Church in Preemption. He served on many different
committees at the church and in 1987 was appointed Honorary Vestryman.
He enjoyed traveling, fishing and trading.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; a daughter and son-in-law,
Bette and Jack Lambin, a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Bobbye
McManus, all of Preemption; three grandchildren, Shawn (Sheri) McManus,
Colorado Springs, Colo., Krista (Robert) Stanfield, Preemption, Lisa
(Tony) Szabo, Naperville, Ill.; five great-grandchildren, Ryan, Amanda,
Alex, Danica and Brandon; and several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Emery.
