Jerry Dowd
Jerry E. Dowd, 70, of Aledo, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, in
the emergency room of the Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo.
Burial is in the Peniel Cemetery, where graveside military services will
be conducted. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a

He was born Dec. 23, 1937, in Joy, a son of Harry and Harriet
Beard Dowd. Jerry was a 1956 graduate of Aledo High School and was
drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in the 35th Armor Division.
On Jan. 20, 1962, he married Mary L. Franks in Elizabethtown, Ky.
Jerry was employed at Farmall for 20 years and briefly drove a
truck for CRST before being called to Navistar in Springfield, Ohio,
retiring in 1994. He assisted area farmers, and Jerry very much enjoyed
helping people, an attribute that earned him great love and respect from
his friends and family.
He was a member of the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge, and he was
an avid sports fan. Jerry was a go-cart enthusiast for many years, and
he enjoyed traveling and driving.
Those left to honor his memory and forever keep him in their
hearts are his wife, Mary; his "girls," daughters, Lori
Allison, Davenport, Lisa (Brad) Barnhouse, Aledo; his grandchildren whom
he loved and cherished, Randi and Britt Etheridge, both of Davenport,
Dylan and Tanner Barnhouse, both of Aledo; and his sister, Julie
Baldwin, Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and
one brother.
