Robert Dowd
Services for Robert "Bob" Dowd, 73, of Viola, will be 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Aledo. Burial will be in National
Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with military honors.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo, during
which Masonic services will be held. Memorials may be made to the Robert
Dowd Memorial Fund.
Bob died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.
Bob was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Viola to Harry and Harriett Beard Dowd.
He married Betty Luxmore May 20, 1962, at Bethel Baptist Church, Galesburg.
Bob was employed with Thede's, Aledo, and Farmall Works, Rock Island,
and retired from Monmouth Implement in 1992. He was a well-known
talented mechanic in the area.
Bob was with the Army National Guard and was called to active duty
during the Korean War.
Bob was a member of First Baptist Church, Aledo, and held many offices
of the church, including clerk and trustee. He was also a member of
Viola Masonic Lodge 577 AF & AM and held many offices at the lodge.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and working on machinery.
Bob is survived by his wife, Betty; sons and their wives, Robert Alan
and Janella Dowd, Covington, Ky., Donald and Anna Dowd, Aledo, and David
and Jennifer Dowd, Peoria Heights, Ill.; sisters and spouse, Julie
Baldwin, Moline, and Mary and Jim Venable, Bettendorf; brothers and
spouse, Jerry and Mary Dowd, Aledo, and John Dowd; and grandchildren,
Brandon, Benjamin, Kaitlyn and William Dowd, Austin Hageman, and Bonnie,
Kailee, Natalie and Nathan Dowd.
