Double Funeral To Be Held Saturday

  The community was shocked on Thursday morning to hear that two of their finest citizens had passed away Wednesday evening. Mrs. Winnifred Lynch at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Martin, south of Corning and Mrs. Catherine Mary Dowling in this city.
  A double funeral will be held for these two esteemed ladies on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the St. Patricks Catholic church in Corning. Below you will find an account of their lives.
  The death of Mrs. Catherine Mary Dowling occurred Wednesday night at 9:50 at her home on Grove Ave., aged 71 years, 5 months and 3 days, as a result of an illness which covered a period of nearly two years. Mrs. Dowling was born in Ireland, November 13, 1852. When eighteen years of age she came to the United States alone and came directly to Iowa, settling in Clinton county, near Clinton. In 1879 she married Thomas Dowling and in 1896 came to Adams county. To this union ten children were born, two dying in infancy. The children living are, William of Montana, Frank of Washington state, Joe of Council Bluffs and John, Nellie, Anna, Mrs. Harry Scott and Mrs. Agnes Miller, all of Corning. The husband, Thomas Dowling, preceded his wife in death fourteen years ago. The grandchildren are, Anita, Bernlee, Raymond and Wayne Scott, and Evelyn, Edward and Geneva Miller. The funeral services will be conducted at the Catholic church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the service in charge of Father Dollard, assisted by Father Raymond Waters. Besides the immediate family, this esteemed lady leaves a host of friends who mourn her passing from them.

  Mrs. Winnifred Moore Lynch was born January 19, 1850, in Ballinasloe county Ros Common, Ireland, at the time of her death she was aged 74 year, 2 months and 27 days of age. She came to New York at the age of 13. Two years later she came to Dubuque, Iowa where she was married to Thos. J. Lynch in 1872, in Dubuque, which was their residence until 1877, when they moved to Adams county. In 1877 they located on the farm which has been their home since that time. She died April 16, 1924 at 11 p. m.
  Her husband Thos. Lynch passed away thirty years ago. She is survived by her only child Mrs. Mary Martin.
Mrs. Lynch was a woman of great strength of character and a deeply religious nature. Everyone that knew her loved her. Her whole life was an expression of thoughtfullness for others. Left a widow many years ago, she carried on the responsibilities and work of the farm and through good judgement and energy made a success of it.
  In her later years surrounded by her loved ones, her daughter Mary and son-in-law Martin who has been a real son to her and three fine grand children, she has had the fine contentment that comes to those whose lives have counted for righteousness and who are surrounded by people they love.
  Mrs. Lynch had a fine courage for every problem, she radiated good will and the spirit of helpfullness that the world needs so much. Her neighbors and friends cannot adequately express their regret in losing her, but they can and do give expression to their knowledge of her fine character and helpful life.
