Thomas Dowling

Died

  Thomas Dowling, for many years an honored resident of Jasper township, died last Thursday at the hospital in Clarinda, of a complication of diseases. Mr. Dowling had been in the hospital about two years on account of a nervous trouble, although he was not violent at any time. He was born in County Queens, Ireland, October 29, 1838, and at the time of his death was aged 70 years, 4 months and 20 days. He came to America in 1859 and located in Clinton county, Iowa, where he was married in 1878 to Miss Katherine O'Keefe, where they resided until 1881 when they moved to Crawford county and then Adams in 1896, which has since been their home. To Mr. and Mrs. Dowling ten children were born, two of whom preceded the father in death. The living are John, Frank, William, Joseph and Misses Nellie, Anna Teresa and Agness, all residing at home. Besides his wife and children Mr. Dowling leave a large number of friends to mourn his loss. The remains were brought to Corning Thursday evening and taken to his home in Jasper township. The funeral services were held at the St. Patrick's Catholic church Saturday morning at 10 o'clock conducted by Rev. Father Dollard and interment was made in Calvary cemetery.

Notes: Clarinda is in Page County, Iowa. The name of County Queens was changed to County Laois in 1921 after the Irish War of Independence.
