Roger Elliott
Roger Elliott, 61, Illinois City, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001,
at University Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Richard Barcliff of St.
Patrick's Catholic Church, and the Rev. Kevin Jennings of the Edgington
Presbyterian Church, at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church
of Andalusia, 2.5 miles north of Edgington. A luncheon will follow in
the church hall to celebrate Roger's life. Burial will be in Edgington Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church, with a
wake service to follow for family and friends to share publicly their
memories of Roger. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline, is in charge of arrangements.
Roger was born June 28, 1940, in Edgington, the son of Lorin and
Harriett Behn Elliott. He married Mary Lou Johannes April 12, 1969, at
St. Joseph,'s Catholic Church, Rock Island.
Roger farmed in the Edgington area all his life, retiring in
1990. In later years, he worked at Johannes Bus Service, Rock Island.
Roger enjoyed his family and friends, in particular, high school class
reunions. His class was the first to graduate from Rockridge High School
in 1958. He loved playing cards and dice with family and friends. He
loved music and dancing all his life, especially big bands and his
father's band ``The Elliott Orchestra.'' He introduced his love of
riding motorcycles to his son Rod.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; son, Rod, Illinois City;
sisters, Lorna Ristau, Cortez, Colo., and Barbara Verschoore, Taylor
Ridge; brother-in-law, Jim McKee, Moline; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister, Jeanie McKee.
